The “Golden Rule” is the foundation for a variety of community projects that McCutchen and Sexton embrace. Safety is the substance of each project that The Law Firm supports beginning with “Project Safety,” a consumer protection program that includes our child passenger seat safety initiative.

Proper safety measures include protecting children when riding in a motor vehicle. This starts with the proper safety seat. Each year, “Project Safety” includes a program where McCutchen and Sexton invite the public to inspection stations where unsafe recalled and outdated child safety seats are replaced free of charge. The next program is scheduled for spring 2010. Certified safety seat inspectors provide screening of safety seats and hands-on instruction to parents for proper installation.

Take 25

On May 25, 2010, McCutchen and Sexton are co-sponsoring the Morgan Nick Foundation “Take 25” campaign. “Take 25” provides parents with the proper tools and awareness to teach children about safety in public settings, and how to avoid falling victim to Internet predators. The local event supports The National Missing and Exploited Children Foundation.

Each year in May, local police departments, school districts, cycling clubs, local media and McCutchen and Sexton join forces to take the educational program into our elementary schools. The crescendo of the program is called “Ride For Their Lives,” a bicycle event where cyclists take to the streets across a 25 mile route between schools where safety demonstrations are provided before the summer break.

Mentoring area youth plays a significant role in The Law Firm’s commitment to our community. For over a decade, Joey McCutchen has mentored youth from the Boys and Girls Clubs and the Boys Shelter. Additionally, the staff at McCutchen and Sexton mentor students from Darby Junior High School.

Students who aspire for a career in the legal profession are invited to shadow lawyers and paralegals at The Law Firm where they can see and experience the day-to-day preparations of case work, are introduced to local Judges, given tours of the courthouse, and inspired to complete their education. The Law Firm also mentors area students through its partnership with Sunnymede Elementary Schools where it serves as a Partner in Education.
